Line number adder utility

This online tool adds line numbers to every line of your text. Paste any text and instantly get a numbered version. All processing happens in your browser—nothing is sent to a server.

Options let you customize the output:

• Separator: choose the character placed between the number and the line content. Options include dot, colon, parenthesis, tab, spaces, or pipe.
• Start at: set the first line number. Defaults to 1 but can be any number including 0.
• Pad numbers: aligns numbers with leading spaces so all separators line up. For example, lines 1–100 would pad single-digit numbers with two spaces.
• Skip blank lines: leaves empty lines unnumbered, numbering only lines that contain text.

Common use cases:

• Code review: add line numbers to code snippets for easier reference in discussions.
• Documentation: number steps in procedures, instructions, or checklists.
• Legal and academic text: add line references for citations and review.
